Dermaplaning

 

Dermaplaning is a form of deep exfoliation using a sharp surgical blade to manually slough and scrape off any build-up of keratinised skin cells on the face.

 

The treatment removes vellum hair which can build up debris & oils in the follicle, which can cause breakouts and a dull complexion.

 

Removing hair and excess debris allows active skin care, mild peels & Light Therapy to penetrate the skin better and for make-up to sit better on the skin.

Frequency of treatment:

Every 3-4 weeks.

It is not recommended to perform more often as the skin needs time to regenerate.

 

FAQs:

 

Will the soft vellus hair grow back thicker & darker? 

• No. Dermaplaning cannot change the structure of vellus hair.

• Hair will grow back slowly, usually in about 4 weeks and no different than it was previously.

• We do not dermaplane the upper lip area to avoid coarser terminal hairs. We also avoid any hormonal hairs.

 

Once I begin dermaplaning, will I have to continue forever?

• The cycle of a vellus hair is around 4-6 weeks if you choose not to continue dermaplaning

• Hairs will grow black and return to the same state it was before treatment.

• Unlike removing terminal hair, you should not feel stubble as vellus hair regrows.

 

Contraindications - (discussed during consultation):

• Blood thinners, uncontrolled diabetes

• Active cancer treatment

• Compromised healing

• Roaccutane use for the past 12 months

• Active Acne or Pustular Rosacea

• Nickel Allergy

• Sunburn, facial rash, active herpes simplex (cold sores), open lesions on the face

• Avoid waxing or tanning at least 7 days before treatment

• Wait for 2 weeks after a chemical peel, dermal fillers, botox or similar aesthetic skin treatments
