As we age, we might start to notice our lips getting thinner and small lines coming out from its borders. These lines are more pronounced in the upper lip and usually extend vertically from the Lips into the Upper Lips (Upper Lip Lines). They are also called smokers’ lines, lipstick lines, barcodes or pursing lines. Upper lip lines are mainly the result of volume loss that comes with age but also due to repetitive pursing of the lips and creasing of the tissue due to intense muscular activity, like running. Smoking can also contribute to deeper lines due to the toxins in cigarettes damaging the skin and regular pursing of the lips. Upper Lip Lines A very soft, light dermal filler is delicately and carefully placed very superficially under the lines to soften them, while maintaining a natural look. Fillers last around 12 months - depending on client. Strategic Anti-Wrinkle Treatment When our lips age, the distance between the nose and the lips gets longer and the lips thin out. This is because of the muscle above the mouth contracting and pushing the lip under itself. Precise placement of a neuromodulator, like Botulinum Toxin above the lip will decrease the under pull of the lip and will flip the lip up and out. This will give the lip a slight increase in volume, and will treat those fine lines and wrinkles in the upper lip. This treatment is popularly called a Lip Flip. (lasts up to 12 weeks.)
